The short answer - no!

Not one of those people who only reads the headline? Then read on ;)

Damage from eyelash extensions occurs when bad technique is used and the extensions are poorly applied.

Here are a few signs that your lashes have been applied poorly:

A lash extension is applied to more than one natural lash

Only one eyelash extension (whether classic or volume) should be applied to each natural lash. Damage occurs when an eyelash extensions is attached to two or more of your natural lashes. If an extension is attached to multiple natural lashes and one of your natural lashes is still growing, it will tug on any of the other lashes that are glued to it. If applied the correct way, i.e. only one lash extension is applied to the natural lash, then the natural lash can grow at its own rate and shed in isolation.

The false lash is too heavy

We all want volume from our eyelash extensions, but if the lashes are too thick or long for your natural lash, it will cause stress and damage.

Stinging eyes

Your eyes should NOT sting during the eyelash extension process. If you experience a burning sensation, then your lash tech may be using too much glue, or they may be taping your eye lid too much, therefore allowing some of the chemicals from the glue to irritate your eye.

The eyelash extensions have been applied to your eyelid

This is a big no-no! Eyelash extensions should never be applied to the lash line as this will cause irritation or allergies, as well as block the hair follicle causing permanent damage.

Summary

Don’t let the war stories put you off. When applied properly, lash extensions are totally safe, even for repeat application. When picking a new lash tech, make sure to do your research. Also, it never hurts to check out their work out on Instagram or their website.
